We design it.
We build it.
We integrate it.
Custom IoT hardware + PCB design, made-to-order firmware, and integration of GPS / IoT gateways - across our own modular hardware or third-party kit you already use. Pick one. Pick three. Bundle them.
What engineering services does IoT-WorkS offer?
All four are available individually or bundled. Most projects pair two or three - hardware + firmware, firmware + integration, or platform + telemetry - but every customer engages on their own terms.

Custom IoT Hardware
+ PCB Design
Bespoke devices from concept to production-ready: schematics, layout, prototype, certification, manufacturing handover.
- ▸Modular IoT-WorkS module families (LTE / LoRa / Battery / Ethernet / I2C)
- ▸Custom designs from clean sheet
- ▸RF, power, mixed-signal - CE / UKCA / FCC ready

Made-to-Order
Firmware Development
Embedded software for our hardware or hardware you already have. Drivers, comms, OTA, security, certification.
- ▸ESP-IDF, Zephyr, FreeRTOS, bare-metal
- ▸STM32, ESP32, Nordic nRF, Silicon Labs
- ▸OTA, secure boot, signed updates

GPS, Gateways &
Integration Services
Deploy and connect IoT - using our in-house modules or third-party hardware you already own. Total stack flexibility.
- ▸GPS, IoT gateways, edge devices
- ▸Bring your own hardware - we’ll integrate
- ▸MQTT, OPC-UA, Modbus, REST, BLE

Custom Software,
AI & Automation
The software layer above the hardware - multi-tenant platforms, AI copilots and automation pipelines that turn telemetry into action.
- ▸Multi-tenant SaaS, role-based admin, real-time feeds
- ▸AI agents tucked into the workflow - not a chat tab
- ▸Telemetry-driven triggers + business-system integrations
How should you bundle engineering services for speed?
Three ways the engagement typically lands:
"We have hardware. We need firmware."
Most common entry point. Customer brings working hardware (theirs or off-the-shelf), we deliver embedded software.
"Design us a device. Ship us the firmware."
Hardware + PCB design plus firmware in a single project - typically 12–20 engineer-weeks, from clean sheet to certified prototypes.
"Take it from concept to deployment."
All three services. Hardware design → firmware → field integration with GPS / gateway / cloud. Single team, single contract.
What does a modular IoT-WorkS architecture look like?
We don’t recommend a stack we wouldn’t run ourselves. Every module below was designed in-house, manufactured to spec, and is shipping to customers. Click any to see the variant we use.
Designed, manufactured, in production.
Not concepts. Not Kickstarter prototypes. The modules we design end up bagged in static-shielding packaging, on a shelf, ready to ship for the next deployment.

How do we keep engineering predictable and scoping honest?
Discovery
Free 30–60 min call. We listen. If we can’t help, we’ll say so on the call and point you to who can.
Scope & quote
Written brief, fixed deliverables, fixed price OR T&M with cap. You sign before we start.
Build
Weekly demos. Slack/Teams shared channel. You see progress, not just invoices.
Handover
Documentation, source files, manufacturing pack, support window. Yours forever.
Frequently asked questions
- Does IoT-WorkS build custom hardware?
- Yes. The engineering team designs custom sensors, trackers and gateways when off-the-shelf doesn't fit - including custom firmware, mechanical enclosures and certification.
- What protocols do IoT-WorkS systems speak?
- MQTT, OPC-UA, Modbus, LoRaWAN, BLE, HTTP and custom binary protocols. Industrial gateways bridge legacy fieldbuses (Modbus RTU, Profibus) to MQTT and OPC-UA for cloud ingestion.
- Where is the data hosted?
- UK or EU - customer's choice. The default deployment is UK-hosted, GDPR-compliant. Customer data is never used to train cross-customer models.
- How long does a typical deployment take?
- Two to twelve weeks depending on scope. A 50-asset pilot using off-the-shelf VS- and VT- devices can be live in two weeks. A custom-hardware programme with certification typically runs eight to twelve weeks.
